Beyond the Lens: How AI Is Rewriting Video Surveillance
What if your security system could detect a medical emergency—before anyone called for help? In this episode of AI Experience, you’ll meet Egor Olteanu, co-founder and CEO of VOLT AI, a company at the intersection of artificial intelligence, safety, and real-time video surveillance. After serving in the U.S. Army and working at Google X, Egor set out to solve a problem most security teams quietly live with: video feeds are rarely watched, and alerts often come too late. You'll hear how VOLT’s AI connects to existing cameras to detect anomalies in real time—from fights and seizures to intrusions after hours. Together, we explore what it means to shift from passive observation to proactive detection, what AI can actually "understand" from a scene, and how human guards and machines can work together without one replacing the other. If you work in education, corporate security, or just want to understand how AI is reshaping public safety, this conversation will give you a clear and concrete view of what’s changing—and what’s still to come.

Egor Olteanu is the co-founder and CEO of VOLT AI. His career began in the U.S. Army, where he served in the Middle East before transitioning to the tech industry in 2011, joining Google X—Google’s Research and Development division known for pioneering innovations like self-driving cars and high-altitude balloons. VOLT is building the future of safety - proactive AI protecting people and pushing the boundaries of what's possible. Founded in Silicon Valley in 2019, VOLT AI was born from the combined expertise and shared vision of Egor Olteanu and Dmitry Sokolowski, childhood friends who took different paths before reuniting to revolutionize security. Dmitry pursued computer science at the University of Maryland, while Egor served in the U.S. Army in the Middle East. Their careers led them to cutting-edge roles—Egor at Google X, working on "Moonshot" projects, and Dmitry leading AI-driven projects at Amazon, Apple, Uber, and Facebook, including Apple Maps and Uber’s AI-powered Risk Platform. In April 2018, their mission accelerated when an active shooter attacked YouTube’s headquarters just miles from their lunch meeting. With their unique blend of military and AI expertise, they saw an opportunity to develop a real-time intelligence system that proactively detects and responds to incidents—from violence to medical emergencies.Egor and Dmitry founded VOLT AI, a mission-driven company using AI as a force multiplier to protect people and save lives. Launched commercially in 2022, VOLT AI is trusted by Fortune 500 companies, schools, universities, and critical infrastructure, redefining security through proactive, AI-driven threat detection.
